Meet the Founder

Melissa Churchill, B.S.Ed, M.S Reading, Certified Reading Specialist

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Melissa Churchill, but my students call me “Miss Melissa.” I started my career as a first grade teacher and quickly realized that teaching reading was my passion. I opened The Reading Bee Literacy Studio to help struggling readers and writers recover from learning loss after Covid. Along the way, I’ve coached families as they navigate medical diagnoses, educational evaluations, the school IEP process, and finding the right private therapies to support their child's needs. Our goal is to help all learners reach their literacy potential by unlocking how their unique brains access words and language and then giving them the key through individualized, data driven, explicit and multisensory instruction.

Our team of incredible educators is here to support your child’s literacy goals and foster a love of reading and writing to last a lifetime.

What We Offer

What Clients are Saying

“We have been working with Melissa at The Reading Bee for just over a year and would highly recommend her. My son really enjoys going to his sessions and has shown a lot of progress in his reading ability and confidence. Her individualized approach to each student and open communication with parents is great as well.”

-Parent of a 3rd grade student

“Over the past few years my son had multiple tutors for reading, with little progress. After beginning, The Reading Bee, he has improved in all areas including phonemic awareness and fluency. Melissa provides evidence based practices and truly understands the child as a learner. She goes above and beyond a typical tutor.”

-Parent of a middle school student

“We feel incredibly fortunate to have Melissa as our son’s tutor for over a year. Her dedication, patience, and expertise have made an immense impact on our first-grader’s learning journey.
Melissa understands that every child is unique. She tailors her teaching methods to address our son’s specific needs. His difficulties with focus, self-esteem, reading, and spelling are met with compassion and effective strategies. Our son’s reluctance to do homework or practice reading at home was transformed under Melissa’s care. She consistently encourages him, creating a positive environment where learning has become enjoyable.

Additionally, Melissa continues to help us navigate the complexities of the public school system, ensuring our son is receiving the resources he needs. Her insights are invaluable in advocating for his education.
Melissa is an outstanding educator who combines expertise with warmth. If you’re seeking a tutor who truly cares about your child’s progress, look no further. We feel fortunate to have found Melissa!”

- Parent of a 1st grade student

“My son has been working with Reading Bee for over a year now and just recently he nearly scored what’s considered “Exceeding Expectations” on a state administered test for reading and writing. His score was even a few points higher than his math score which usually his strongest subject.

His tutor, Melissa, has always maintained an open dialogue regarding his learning plan. On a weekly basis she was able to adapt and switch gears in areas where improvements were needed. Without a doubt, her guidance has helped him advance his reading levels along with his reading comprehension and writing skills.”
